Report: Manchester United considering Lucas Ocampos

Manchester United are reported to be considering a move for Lucas Ocampos, report ESPN.

Ocampos was part of Sevilla’s Europa League winning side last season, netting the late winner against Wolves in the quarter-final.

He scored 17 goals in all competitions in 2019/20, the best return of his career.

Ocampos has spent just one season in Spain, after a move from Marseille.

Just two weeks ago we cited him as a potential Jadon Sancho alternative United should consider.

And back in March we looked at three reasons why United should consider a move for the Argentine.

Alternative

United have come in for heavy, and deserved criticism after signing just one player in the transfer window.

The right wing position is still a conundrum the club have yet to address.

Jadon Sancho appears too expensive and too difficult a deal to do at this late stage.

Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is being strongly linked, with L’Equipe reporting he is open to a permanent exit from Barcelona.

ESPN maintain Dembele remains an option, and suggest United are also weighing up a move for Ocampos.

It is claimed the club have made extensive checks on the 26-year-old, and he would be available at around £35 million.

One out?

Solskjaer is open to letting Dan James leave if a bid comes in of around £25 million, ESPN report.

The Welshman has struggled to make an impact for the club since joining last summer.

£25 million would give United a profit on the fee paid for him a year ago. Crystal Palace and Leeds are both said to be interested.

The board are said to be unsure whether selling a player after just one season sends the right message about developing talent.
