Lyon winger Afonso Moreira has been briefly linked with a move to Manchester United, but the Portuguese prospect is set to switch Ligue 1 for the Bundesliga this summer.
Manchester United are busy scouring the market for targets in positions the club wishes to improve ahead of the 2026/27 season. This year, the focus is on central midfielders and a left winger.
The lack of natural left-wingers at United led to links to Afonso Moreira, who has impressed at Lyon since joining from Sporting CP, where he was handed his professional debut by Ruben Amorim.
Alternative left-wingers linked with a move to Old Trafford include Ilmane Ndiaye and Yan Diomande, who are both representing their countries at the 2026 World Cup.

Every year it’s the same story. United get linked to many footballers, but they can’t all be signed.
Bayer Leverkusen have moved quickly to secure a deal with Lyon for Afonso Moreira, which is believed to be worth £27.68m, as per Fabrizio Romano.
It’s a reasonable deal for a young player who scored eight goals and registered 11 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for Lyon last term.
United will move on to other targets, although it was never suggested that Moreira was high on the wish list. He could be a player they continue to monitor at Leverkusen over the coming years.
The latest winger linked to United is Crysencio Summerville from West Ham. A price tag worth £50m has been put on the Netherlands international’s head.
United also need to solve Marcus Rashford’s future before spending a significant fee on a new left winger, with Barcelona passing on the opportunity to sign the England star for £26m following a successful season-long loan.

Of course, the Reds have been linked to players from Lyon down the years, but none have made the move to Old Trafford from the French club.
