Matheus Cunha has made an unsurprising admission about Casemiro’s exit from Manchester United, after hailing the experienced midfielder for helping him to settle at Old Trafford.
It has been a year since Matheus Cunha completed his £62.5 million transfer from Wolves to Manchester United.
In his debut season at Old Trafford, Cunha became a fan favourite on top of playing a decisive role under Michael Carrick as United secured Champions League qualification.
Cunha’s performances warranted his first call-up to a World Cup tournament after his omission from the 2022 edition in Qatar.

Matheus Cunha tried to convince Casemiro to stay at Man Utd
After Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Morocco in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup, Cunha is waiting on his first start at the tournament.
Casemiro started in midfield for the five-time World Cup winners, but was substituted after struggling in the first half.
In a sit-down interview with AS, Cunha admitted he tried – along with United fans – to convince Casemiro to stay at Old Trafford for one more year.
Casemiro announced his exit in January before helping guide Carrick’s team back into the Champions League, despite a difficult first half to the campaign.
Cunha stressed that Casemiro is one of the greatest players in football and acknowledged how he welcomed him at the club following his arrival.
“Me and all the Manchester United fans. Casemiro is one of the greatest players in our football and would undoubtedly help us a lot if he stayed here.
“He was one of the players who welcomed me with open arms when I arrived, and I’m very grateful to him for that. If I could, I would make sure he stayed with us for another year. I wish him all the best in the future.”
Casemiro has been linked to Inter Miami, but a deal is not expected to be completed until after the World Cup.
At least with United reaching an agreement for Ederson, Cunha should have a new Brazilian compatriot in the dressing room next season. The pair will be able to get closer during this summer’s tournament in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Matheus Cunha wants trophies at Man Utd next season
Like any player signing for United, Cunha came with big expectations after already establishing himself in the Premier League with Wolves.
Cunha has now promised more hard work next season, with a demand for trophies.
“We’re going to work hard to honour the shirt we wear and all the wonderful history this club has,” Cunha.
“That’s our promise to the fans. We want next season to be a season of triumphs.”
