There wasn’t much for Manchester United fans to shout about after losing to Tottenham Hotspur but Patrick Dorgu was a bright spot.

Manchester United lost 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon as Ruben Amorim slumped to another defeat.

Tottenham have been in similarly dire form of late and this was a real chance for United too and an away win.

Despite carving out some fine chances, United just couldn’t find a leveller and suffered a 12th defeat of the Premier League campaign.

The malaise continues around United and we have seen a number of players under the microscope after another defeat.

Rasmus Hojlund has been questioned by Dimitar Berbatov, Alejandro Garnacho’s wastefulness was on show again and Casemiro struggled on his return.

Peter Schmeichel shares Patrick Dorgu verdict

There hasn’t been all that much positivity around United due to Sunday’s defeat and that means Patrick Dorgu’s performance has somewhat gone under the radar.

United signed Dorgu from Lecce in January but his debut against Leicester City was a little strange.

The Dane played as a right wing back rather than his usual left-sided role and was substituted at half time by Amorim.

The United boss may want to bring Dorgu along slowly but he threw him into the lineup against Tottenham.

Dorgu played well down the left flank and has now been praised by a Dane who knows all about what it takes to play for United.

Peter Schmeichel has spoken to Campo in Denmark about Dorgu’s Premier League debut – and praised his performance.

The former United goalkeeper believes that Dorgu ‘looks promising’ but believes that there is huge pressure on him.

Schmeichel noted that United are seriously struggling and Dorgu being the only major January addition will put the spotlight on him.

“It’s big to come to a club like Manchester United – a club in trouble,” said Schmeichel.

“They haven’t been in as much trouble as they are now since the 1930s maybe. And the only significant player that the club and Ruben Amorim have brought in is Patrick Dorgu. So there’s a lot of pressure on him.

“I think he’s playing well. In his first game he only had to play 45 minutes, and you get a little idea of what Ruben Amorim wants with the team. Dorgu was always available and moving. He came in, was fresh and good defensively. I think he did really well – Dorgu looks promising for United,” he added.

Danish media on Patrick Dorgu performance

The Danish media will be studying Dorgu very closely.

There were already two Danes at Old Trafford but they are both under something of a cloud right now.

Christian Eriksen is set to leave United this summer whilst Hojlund is on a lengthy goal drought.

Dorgu will be looking to become a superstar at United and the Danish media were encouraged by his performance against Tottenham.

BT rated Dorgu at four out of six stars and suggested that he offered a lot both going forward and defensively despite ‘a few mistakes here and there’.

They added that Dorgu was surely irritated with Alejandro Garnacho’s inability to find him on the overlap down the left flank, but put that down to the pair not knowing each other well enough yet.

“Patrick Dorgu must have been peevishly irritated at times with Alejandro Garnacho, who repeatedly failed to play Dorgu deep despite the Dane’s dynamic running,” wrote BT.

“There was clearly a lack of understanding and chemistry between the two players, who obviously don’t know each other very well yet. But Dorgu showed himself brilliantly in the match against Tottenham, where he spiced up important defensive actions with fine tactics in the offensive game. Among other things, the former Lecce player sent a great cross after 74 minutes, which Casemiro was unable to capitalise on.

“He also sent Højlund nicely deep with a first-time pass at the end of the match, but the angle was too sharp for Højlund. A promising Premier League debut despite a few mistakes here and there. But the premiere will not go down in the history books,” they added.

We are looking forward to seeing more of Dorgu after a promising star to Premier League life – and hopefully that connection with Garnacho grows with time.
