Manchester United took on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League – but failed to score and lost 1-0.

A James Maddison first-half strike, which left Manchester United defenders people-watching, was the difference at the break, but the Red Devils didn’t respond.

It was another game of sheer frustration for Ruben Amorim, United players didn’t perform against Spurs, but the biggest problem was once again the goalscoring.

But whilst the attack was at the forefront of Amorim’s issues, so was the midfield. In particular, one man had a shocker of a return to action.

Casemiro off the pace against Tottenham

It’s happened again, Casemiro was severely off the pace as Manchester United took on Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian was chasing shadows for the majority of the Premier League clash, with Casemiro receiving unfavourable reviews from United supporters online.

The 32-year-old’s poor performance was reflected in his stats on Sunday afternoon.

In fairness to Casemiro, he has had such a long time out, but the Spurs fixture proved why Ruben Amorim has exiled him for some time. A youngster should have come on in his place.

Sekou Kone should’ve replaced Casemiro

It’s quite fitting that in a squad of Manchester United young guns, Casemiro looked the player most out of his depth.

He should have come off for Sekou Kone, a young, boisterous workaholic of a midfielder – who despite his age, would probably have had more of an impact than the five times Champions League winner.

With a plethora of injuries for Manchester United in the midfield, Casemiro will have to start quite a few games in the coming weeks.

The Spurs performance was a bad introduction back to life at Manchester United. Welcome back, Case – for now.
