Man Utd player ratings vs Spurs, Joshua Zirkzee a positive but 3/10 star shouldn’t play for Ruben Amorim again

Add as preferred source on Google

Manchester United’s Premier League woes continued as a vastly undermanned side lost 1-0 to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Spurs bossed territory and proceedings in the opening exchanges but after a flurry of shots by United on transition, took the lead through Maddison.

The game remained end-to-end but United showed their usual wastefulness in front of goal to keep trailing at half-time.

Amorim’s men showed a bit more invention in the second half but their shooting boots remained missing as they huffed and puffed.

It remained 1-0 in a scoreline that betrayed the manner and pace of the game as both teams wasted numerous chances, with United arguably being good value for a draw at least.

Here’s how the players rated-

Andre Onana – 4

Not the best endorsement of his abilities as he parried Bergvall’s shot straight into Maddison’s path to tap home.

Matthijs de Ligt – 6

Defended his box well but it meant he stayed deep, causing space between the defence and the midfield.

Harry Maguire – 6

Similar to De Ligt in defence but the threat of being outrun in transitions caused a chasm that the midfielders were given the thankless task of covering.

Noussair Mazraoui – 6

Landed on his backside a couple of times when defending against Maddison but didn’t make any clear-cut errors.

Patrick Dorgu – 6.5

Back on the left this game, looked more adventurous when playing on his stronger foot.

Diogo Dalot – 5

The danger was always going to come through his side via Son and he looked unable to thwart it.

Casemiro – 3

Maguire and De Ligt in defence with Casemiro in front is a recipe for disaster and that’s how it transpired due to a lack of pace. Should not play in Amorim’s system again.

Bruno Fernandes – 6.5

Should’ve had an assist for Garnacho but the Argentine fluffed it unforgivably. At the center of all good things creatively.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5

He was threatening and got on the end of the chances but missed the biggest one when he shot over from close range. Needs to sort out his finishing.

Joshua Zirkzee – 7

The best of a bad bunch with his confidence on the ball and the ability to drop a shoulder to beat his man. Created chances out of nothing.

Rasmus Hojlund – 6

Started well and showed good movement but faded as the attacks started getting funneled through the wings.

Substitutes

Chido Obi – 6

Came on in injury time as a ceremonial sub for his senior Man Utd debut.
