Ruben Amorim didn’t spring too many surprises with his Manchester United team selection, but the Portuguese head coach did opt to swap the positions of Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot.

While the positional swap did have some impact, it is clear that Amorim wants a new wing-back or two to be signed. Patrick Dorgu has emerged as United’s top target this month.

After having two bids rejected by Lecce already, United are preparing a third bid for Dorgu with the Italian side holding out for a fee of £29.5m.

Patrick Dorgu likes Joshua Zirkzee’s message

Joshua Zirkzee returned to the bench on Sunday after starting in consecutive games, but he was brought on by Amorim in the second half after Rasmus Hojlund struggled against Fulham.

After the full-time whistle, United’s £34m summer signing sent a message to fans via Instagram with the caption “Yanited”.

Alongside several of Zirkzee’s United teammates, the post was liked by United target Dorgu.

Dorgu also follows a handful of United stars on the platform including Zirkzee, Kobbie Mainoo and Denmark teammates Hojlund and Christian Eriksen.

Why Man United are ‘excited’ by Patrick Dorgu

United seem determined to get a deal over the line for Dorgu having had a £28m bid rejected for the 20-year-old wing-back already.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey exclusively told United in Focus that Dorgu is exciting United scouts as he is a good fit for Amorim’s system – he will be the first signing tailor-made for Amorim’s 3-4-3 setup.

Dorgu has been described as a “machine” due to his athleticism and physicality. Amorim has urged his United side to be more physical and aggressive and Dorgu will tick both boxes if he is signed this month.

Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand hailed Dorgu’s physicality before he had even been promoted to the Danish national team. At just 20, he still has plenty of time to grow and develop.
