Manchester United are not ready to give up on their pursuit of Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu this month.
After his first game as Manchester United head coach, it became clear that Ruben Amorim wanted a new left wing-back.
It has been a problem position for the Red Devils in recent years with Luke Shaw’s terrible injury record and Tyrell Malacia’s lengthy absence leaving Amorim short of options. On top of that, neither appear to be well-suited to the new 3-4-3 formation.
Patrick Dorgu has become the clear favourite for the wing-back position with the 20-year-old Lecce defender impressing in Serie A this season.
United submitted a £23m bid for Dorgu which was immediately rejected. United then bid £28m for Dorgu but it was still below Lecce’s asking price. According to reports, a third bid is now being readied.

After the first two bids, Lecce’s manager spoke about Dorgu’s future and he insisted that “top European clubs want him”.
In a bid to win the race for Dorgu’s signature, United are ready to submit a third bid for the Danish star.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, a third offer is “incoming”. The two clubs are now just €5m (£4.2m) apart in their valuation.
Jacobs claims United are prepared to go higher than their latest £28m bid. He adds that Lecce have shifted their asking price and are now looking for a guaranteed fee of €35m (£29.5m) plus add-ons.
With six days remaining in the January transfer window, United are inching closer to making Dorgu their first major signing of the month.

Dorgu has been a star for Lecce this season, with three goals and one assist in 22 appearances this season.
Dorgu has been described as a “machine” who would improve the lack of physicality in this current United squad.
His versatility is one of his strongest attributes with Dorgu playing matches at left and right wing-back this season, as well as advanced positions on either wing.
Signing Dorgu would finally give Amorim a first-choice left wing-back, allowing Diogo Dalot to move back to his preferred right-hand side to compete with Noussair Mazraoui for a starting spot.

Signing Dorgu would also put question marks over Shaw’s future at the club. Shaw could be used as a centre-back having impressed in that role under Erik ten Hag.
It also means Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot could compete for the right wing-back position, freeing up Amad to play further forward regularly.
