Manchester United are working to sign a generational talent at left wing-back, one with qualities that Ruben Amorim will love.
The tactical system that Ruben Amorim is seeking to perfect requires players with physical qualities – and importantly two gifted wing-backs.
On the right, Amad Diallo has been impressive as a wing-back, while Amorim also has both Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui.
However, on the left, Manchester United have just one senior natural option in Tyrell Malacia. However, the Dutchman has failed to impress and now Malacia could find himself departing this month.
Amorim has told Malacia he can leave on loan this month, with United in talks to replace him with Patrick Dorgu.

Kasper Hjulmand once lauded Patrick Dorgu
Signing Dorgu would be an impressive pick-up and importantly a drastic upgrade on the current left wing-back options for a price of around £34m.
Speaking to Danish outlet, Bold, back in 2023 – before Patrick Dorgu was even promoted – former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand waxed lyrical about the 20-year-old.
“He is a very, very exciting left back, and let’s see tomorrow if he turns up in the U21 team.
“I know his story all the way back from when he was a boy. He then came to Lecce, where he helped win the Primavera (the Italian youth tournament).
“He is a player who loves to play football and who loves to train and be in there. He has a great physical package and he has a basic technique that can be used.
“A left-footed left-back with that package is very, very exciting. The things that I think he falls for, it’s something that can be learned.
“An exciting young player who we follow closely and are very much looking forward to following.”
Dorgu will give Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United exactly what it needs
If Dorgu does arrive at Old Trafford, his physicality will be the biggest immediate change on the left side.
Amorim has demanded his team run like mad dogs, something which Dorgu could do with ease. The Dane not only has an impressive engine but is incredibly fast and strong.
Additionally, Dorgu has the offensive output which Amorim desires from his wing-backs and could solve the biggest problem.
United are so imbalanced with Dalot and Bruno Fernandes on the left – with teams giving them plenty of space down the line, knowing neither will put in dangerous balls from the byline.
Dorgu’s addition could therefore also unleash Amad as he would have more space – and provide a lot more balance to the attack.
