Mike Phelan praises Levitt and James’ performance in Wales victory

Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has given his seal of approval to Dan James’ contribution in Wales’ win.

Wales beat Finland 1-0 in the UEFA Nations League, with James and United youngster Dylan Levitt starting the match.

James was involved in the game’s decisive moment, providing the assist from the left hand side.

It was an impressively determined run from James which created the goal, taking a couple of touches to go past an opponent, before delivering a low pass towards striker Kieffer Moore.

Phelan praised the pair on social media after the win, with Levitt looking like he belonged at this level.

United need to see more of this from James. He started last season well, and this assist will lift his confidence.

It is also noteworthy that his assist came from the left wing. United may get more out of him from this side, as a back-up for Marcus Rashford, than playing him on the right.

For this to happen, United need a new right winger, but that is a conversation for another time.

Giggs praises Levitt

19-year-old Dylan Levitt impressed, making four tackles, more than any player in the Wales team.

Manager Ryan Giggs was positive about his performance after the match, telling Sky Sports: “He grew into the game really well.

“We know what he’s capable of with his passing, he showed compsure. He was really good.”

Levitt is a rare academy player to make his international debut before his league debut for Manchester United, although he did start in the Europa League last season.

He is another big talent who the club are right to be excited about.
