Marcus Rashford will miss big chance to resurrect England career, his Man Utd teammates could benefit

Manchester United are set for Ruben Amorim’s biggest game yet on Sunday and it is a daunting task.

Given the record over the past decade, heading to Anfield is never an exciting matchday but rather the week is filled with dread and flashbacks to the 7-0 thumping in 2023.

Manchester United’s record at Anfield is so bad that not a single goal has been scored since 2018 – a concerning statistic considering United are already on a three-game scoreless run.

However, against the big teams under Ruben Amorim, United has impressed – beating City, running Spurs close and only conceding due to corners against Arsenal.

United are however low on confidence considering December was a record-breaking month for losses for Amorim. But this must end sometime, so why not against Liverpool?

For a handful of United players, the stakes around the game have just increased.

Thomas Tuchel set to watch Manchester United vs Liverpool

For United’s two regular English starters, Sunday sees the new national team boss in the stands.

According to the Express, Tuchel’s first England scouting assignment will be to watch United against Liverpool at the weekend.

He will likely get to watch Harry Maguire, who is fighting to regain his England spot, and also Kobbie Mainoo in action from a United side of things.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will have Jarrell Quansah and Trent Alexander-Arnold on display.

However, for one United Englishman, this could be an opportunity he regrets missing.

Marcus Rashford’s big chance to impress missed

Marcus Rashford’s future at Old Trafford is far from certain, with the forward stating his desire for new challenges.

United have decided to sell Rashford, with his price tag set at a minimum of £40m as clubs circle.

However, Rashford is expected to be extremely keen on returning to the England set-up under Tuchel and with Amorim ruling out Rashford this weekend, he won’t get the chance to impress.

Tuchel is a fan of Rashford and so he is going to get a chance, but if he had kept himself in Amorim’s good books and worked hard to get back in the team, he would have a big chance to impress this weekend with Tuchel watching on.
