Michael Carrick is set to be appointed as Manchester United permanent head coach.
Manchester United are holding ‘formal talks’ with Michael Carrick over appointing him on a permanent basis.
Details over Carrick’s deal are currently being finalised, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe approving the decision to offer an extended contract.
Carrick had been hired on a short-term basis back in January, and he has since led United to third place in the Premier League.
One more point from the two remaining games will confirm United’s finish at the position.
It is a decision welcomed by Manchester United fans, while rival clubs are reported to be disappointed.

United’s rivals on Carrick
Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has led United to wins over Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Chelsea among others. He has accrued 33 points from a possible 45.
Journalist Miguel Delaney explains that United’s rivals agree that Carrick is the best option.
Speaking on YouTube, he commented: “Right now it feels like the correct decision for for Carrick to stay on. And from what I’m told as well a lot of other clubs a lot of like prospective rivals for Manchester United they feel the same way.
“They think they think it would be a mistake for Manchester United to look elsewhere. From the perspective of competing with Manchester United.
“I suppose they would see more of a chance if United did make did go in another direction because it would bring uncertainty again.”
Former Chelsea star Joe Cole recently claimed it would be ‘insane’ for United to consider any other option other than Michael Carrick.

Casemiro backing
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro gave his backing to Michael Carrick, speaking earlier this week.
In an interview with Rio Ferdinand Presents, Casemiro even compared Carrick to legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti.
He said: “Ancelotti, he is a big manager because he understands. He played. He knows what the players need to listen to, and he pushes, but he knows the time to push.
“He [Carrick] knows. So for me, he deserves it [the job].”
