Manchester United star matched Dan James' top Euro 2020 sprint speed v Ukraine
Wales winger Dan James hit headlines earlier in Euro 2020 when he set one of the fastest sprint speeds at the tournament. Watching him play, it was not at all surprising.
Now during England’s win over Ukraine, one of his Manchester United teammates has matched him.
It was Marcus Rashford who set the speed, recorded by UEFA.com.
Rashford recorded a sprint speed of 33.5 km/h in England’s 4-0 victory over Ukraine, the same as Dan James managed against Turkey.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Rashford came on in the 65th minute against Ukraine with England already 4-0 up, replacing Raheem Sterling.
While he did not add to the goals, the game was already won, and Rashford clearly put in everything he could. To get 25 minutes of action was good for him to improve his sharpness and this could pay off in the semi-finals or even the final if called upon.
Rashford’s pace should not really be a surprise. United’s official website reported he set the fastest sprint speed of players in the 2020/21 season.
England’s fastest player
Rashford is now England’s fastest player at Euro 2020 after setting his speed of 33.5 km/h.
He leapt ahead of Raheem Sterling (33.1), Kyle Walker (32.8), and Mason Mount (31.5).
The fastest player is 0.3 km/h faster than Rashford and Dan James’ times, with Italy’s Leonardo Spinazzola and Hungary’s Loic Nego both setting speeds of 33.8 km/h.
Prior to Rashford’s contribution on Saturday, the second fastest United player behind James at the tournament was Scott McTominay (32.2).
