France’s elimination from Euro 2020 is bad news for Manchester United star Paul Pogba.
But it could be good news for Manchester United, as it allows more time to try and sign Raphael Varane.
France were favourites to win the tournament before their shock last 16 defeat to Switzerland.
The final would have taken place on July 11, meaning Varane has now exited the competition 12 days early.

Earlier move
Varane is widely considered to be United’s top defensive target. The Mail report Real Madrid are increasingly worried about losing him amid interest from United.
What is unclear is Varane’s desire. Will he end up renewing at Real as many suspect? Will he sign with PSG as El Confidencial reported he wants to do? Or is he becoming increasingly tempted by the prospect of a move to Old Trafford?
Whichever the case, Varane’s decision was on hold until his Euro 2020 was over.
Now instead of spending the next 12 days focusing on France, he can get away and begin contemplating his future.
This is good for Manchester United regardless of the choice Varane ends up making.
Either Varane chooses United and gets to Carrington earlier, for pre-season, and is ready to start the Premier League season, or the club give up and go elsewhere.
It is better for United to pursue an alternative in mid-July, than waiting for the end of July for Varane to turn the Red Devils down.
Hopefully he can be persuaded to join United, and the club’s negotiating team will crack into action right away. There is no time to waste now.
