Manchester United fans’ reaction to Manuel Ugarte’s performance spoke volumes after Ruben Amorim’s men lost to West Ham in their Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.
West Ham defeated Manchester United 2-0 on Sunday afternoon and the Hammers climbed above Tottenham and the Red Devils in the Premier League table.
United’s setback against West Ham has seen Ruben Amorim’s side fall from 15th place to 16th place in the Premier League table with only two league matches left.
Tottenham were also in action on Sunday and Spurs suffered a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at home, with Ange Postecoglou’s men only one point behind United.
United will meet Tottenham in the Europa League final and both 17th-place Spurs and the Red Devils have been in shocking form in the Premier League this season.
Amorim’s men languish in 16th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils have lost a whopping 17 times in the league alone in the 2024-25 campaign.
United have only managed 10 wins from 36 league matches and Amorim’s side will finish outside of the top half of the Premier League table.
The Red Devils can no longer secure a European qualification spot through the league and will end the season with their worst finish in the Premier League era.
What did Man Utd fans say about Manuel Ugarte’s performance at Old Trafford in the 2-0 defeat to West Ham?
Manuel Ugarte started in the heart of midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes and the Manchester United star disappointed with his performance on Sunday afternoon.
The 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder lasted 59 minutes against West Ham before United manager Ruben Amorim hooked him off and replaced him with Patrick Dorgu.
Ugarte was at fault for West Ham’s second against United and Red Devils supporters didn’t hold back their feelings on the former Sporting CP player’s midfield display.
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, insisted that Ugarte should not start the 2025 Europa League final against Tottenham.
One X user said: “Absolutely. Bruno and Casemiro are a better CM partnership. Ugarte just goes short, wide and back. He’s not fast or mobile enough for this league.”
While a second argued: “I’ve always liked Ugarte, but that was just appalling from him. Too often gets caught out in the Prem. I’d play Casemiro with Bruno in Europa final, with Amad [Diallo] and Garna [Alejandro Garnacho] as the [No] 10s.”
Another United fan suggested: “I wouldn’t play Ugarte in the final. Put Casemiro [and] Bruno [as] the deep [two midfielders]. Then [Mason] Mount and Garnacho as the two No 10s. Ugarte is so bad, man.”
“Ugarte and Fernandes showcasing why Casemiro [is] so vital for [the] final. And Ugarte [is] in danger of losing his spot,” a fourth tweeted.
Somebody else commented: “At least that SHOULD [sic] mean Ugarte doesn’t start for the final. Bruno-Case pivot with Mount in the [No] 10 seems likely.”
“If Amorim starts Ugarte in the final, then what inevitably happens is on him,” a sixth claimed.
And a seventh Red Devils supporter simply wrote: “Ugarte cannot start that final.”
“Ugarte has no business in that final,” someone else tweeted.
Bruno Fernandes’ telling reaction to Man Utd’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford
Speaking after the 2-0 scoreline at Old Trafford, Red Devils skipper Bruno Fernandes spoke out on his disappointment over United’s performance against West Ham.
“We created a lot of chances, but it’s not enough,” he told Sky Sports, as per BBC Sport.
“We have to put our chances into goals. Today was frustrating because we couldn’t do that.
“We need to be stronger and more eager to score goals and put balls into the box. If you create the chances, you have to try and bury them in.
“It’s difficult to explain. Everyone wants to score goals. It’s not been our season to get the goals in. We have to improve in that. We have to be much better. And we have to be more aggressive.
“We had two games; we have one more game. We can’t just only focus on the Europa League final. We have to put maximum effort [into] every game.
“Any points in the Premier League at this moment for us will be massive.”
Tomas Soucek broke the deadlock in the first half for West Ham at Old Trafford before Jarrod Bowen slammed home the Hammers’ second after the break.
United will now return to Premier League action on Friday and the Red Devils will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, with kick-off slated for 8:15pm UK time.
