Manchester United fans dropped their clear-cut feelings on Kobbie Mainoo after the player’s performance against West Ham in the Red Devils’ latest Premier League clash.
The Red Devils resumed their lacklustre 2024-25 Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon, with Graham Potter’s West Ham side arriving at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim’s men returned to Premier League action only days after the Red Devils punched their ticket to the 2025 Europa League final this season.
United defeated Athletic Club 4-1 at Old Trafford in the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals and the Red Devils will now face Tottenham in the final.
The Red Devils’ Europa League run is a lifeline for United to secure their return to European football in the 2025-26 season with Champions League football.
Ruben Amorim could also sign off the Red Devils’ woeful season with his first piece of silverware as United manager if his side can lift the Europa League trophy.
Ahead of West Ham’s visit to Old Trafford, United languished in 15th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils had suffered 16 league defeats.
United only have two league matches remaining in their 2024-25 season and the Red Devils are unable to finish in the top half of the Premier League table.

Man Utd fans react to Kobbie Mainoo after the player’s display against West Ham in the Premier League match at Old Trafford
Kobbie Mainoo started the Premier League match on Sunday and he was deployed as one of the two No 10s in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for Manchester United.
However, United fans on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, had big question marks about the 20-year-old midfielder’s role in the system against West Ham.
One X user said: “Starting to believe the idea of Mainoo is better than the reality of him in this system; he needs to be playing in a [three] man midfield.”
Somebody else argued: “Mainoo is receiving the ball in the wrong places. His feints and turns are nearly useless with how far he is up the field and the pressure he receives under. He needs to be in the pivot. He’s an 8, not a [No] 10. It hurts watching him play in this system.”
“Mainoo will be one of the casualties of this system,” a third United fan added.
Another Red Devils supporter suggested: “Kobbie Mainoo can only function in a 4-3-3 possession-based system because of how slow he is; he can’t function in this Amorim system because this system requires people who can run back-to-back and Kobbie Mainoo can’t do that because he is very slow.”
“Mainoo’s profile doesn’t fit this system, but he’s young and he will adapt,” somebody else claimed.
While a sixth added: “Don’t see any value which Mainoo adds as the right-10 in the system.”
And a seventh posted: “Am I the only person that thinks Mainoo [hasn’t] been the same player recently? Maybe the system?”
“Mainoo is a good player, but I don’t think he fits our system at all, TBH,” another tweeted.
