Man United star who was flawless against Fulham is snubbed by Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week

Troy Deeney has shockingly overlooked one Manchester United star in his latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Lisandro Martinez starred in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday afternoon with his deflected strike proving to be the match-winner.

The Argentina international put on a fiery display at Craven Cottage, reigniting his fierce rivalry with Fulham’s Adama Traore.

United were far from their best when it came to threatening Fulham’s goal, but Ruben Amorim will be delighted that his side picked up just their second Premier League clean sheet since he was appointed in November.

Harry Maguire played a crucial role in keeping that clean sheet, with the 31-year-old returning to the starting lineup and starring in the heart of defence.

However, according to Troy Deeney, he did not do enough to earn a spot in the Premier League Team of the Week.

Troy Deeney snubs Harry Maguire from Team of the Week

Martinez was superb, but Maguire was flawless against Fulham with 97% passing accuracy, 100% ground duels won and 11 defensive actions.

The Man of the Match award deservedly went to Martinez after his goal made the difference, but Maguire flew under the radar in terms of his importance.

Deeney named his Premier League Team of the Week on Monday and while there was space for Martinez at the back, Maguire missed out.

Instead of Maguire, Deeney opted for United target Jarrad Branthwaite after he impressed for Everton against Brighton. Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori also made the cut.

Ruben Amorim explains Harry Maguire’s good form

Just a few months ago, Maguire had dropped well down the pecking order at United and it seemed a move away was inevitable.

Since then, he has made a brilliant return to the starting lineup under Amorim and Maguire’s contract was extended as a result of his strong form.

After the win against Fulham, Amorim explained that Maguire thrives in a deep defence. The United boss said: “When we defend a little bit lower it’s really good on Harry – he doesn’t have to cover a lot of space,”

While others have found it difficult to adapt to Amorim’s three-at-the-back system, Maguire has thrived and returned to top form.

Amorim called for better leadership in this United squad and Maguire has stepped up and delivered.
