Three winners and two losers as Manchester United beat Fulham 1-0

Manchester United recorded a third Premier League away victory of the season, defeating Fulham 1-0.

Lisandro Martinez’s strike was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for the Red Devils, a second away win in the league under Ruben Amorim, following the victory over City last month.

United scored another injury time after a great combination from Amad and Kobbie Mainoo, before it was chalked off by VAR.

The result moved Manchester United up to 12th in the table, gradually climbing the standing after a horrific first half of the campaign.

Winners

Here’s a look at our selected winners from the victory at Craven Cottage…

Lisandro Martinez

Lisandro Martinez was Manchester United’s surprise goalscoring hero after his long range strike looped into the net.

Martinez had a bit of luck with the deflection, luck that came his way because he had the bravery to attempt the shot.

After providing a match-winning assist vs Rangers, Martinez contributed with a decisive goal to see off Fulham away from home.

This was a great moment, and a much-needed one, with a lack of attacking threat on display before his decisive strike.

Harry Maguire

Lisandro Martinez was excellent, and alongside him at the back so too was Harry Maguire, who had a great game.

Maguire made an error late in the game against Rangers, but didn’t let him impact him against Fulham, shaking it off with a confident display.

The centre-back made six clearances, won six duels, and made two interceptions while completing 56 of 58 pass attempts.

A special word too for Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, who both featured during the clean sheet, with the Frenchman coming off the bench in the 58th minute.

Toby Collyer

Toby Collyer has shown himself to be a real rising star in recent weeks, continually preferred to veteran Casemiro.

After an excellent display against Rangers, Collyer was back on the bench, yet came on to make a vital contribution.

Collyer made a goal line clearance to prevent Joachim Anderson’s header going in, ensuring United left with all three points.

Losers

A look at the losers from the rare away victory…

Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United have a problem up front, with Rasmus Hojlund showing no signs of progress under Ruben Amorim.

Hojlund has not scored a Premier League goal since Erik ten Hag was in charge, and his last strike under Amorim came against Plzen.

He was anonymous against Fulham, completing only six chances and failing to register a shot before he was hauled off on 58 minutes.

Adama Traore

What a disaster for Fulham winger Adama Traore, who was desperate to prove himself against Lisandro Martinez.

Back in August, Martinez showed his strength by outmuscling the stocky Fulham winger, prompting the Spaniard to warn on Instagram, ‘we will meet again’.

Traore and Martinez had an exchange of words after the Fulham man skied an effort wildly over the bar, before the Argentina defender went up the other end and scored the winner!
