Manchester United are 15th in the Premier League table at the time of writing but the optimising in the fanbase has never been higher for one reason.

Ruben Amorim has quickly installed a recognisable style of play and identity at the club and fixed a United weakness of falling in big games already.

At the same time, his masterful media management and his ability to send his players pointed messages without throwing them under the bus are crucial.

One Man Utd star has already massively benefitted from it, responding to Amorim’s major criticism of the dressing room in just the way he would have wanted.

Harry Maguire steps up to Ruben Amorim’s challenge

It was barely two weeks ago when Amorim made a pointed remark towards the Man Utd dressing room that would have had any other group of players up in arms.

He said that the Man Utd squad was “starved” of leaders and he needed more players to step up and own that initiative. Diogo Dalot accepted that it pinched him as he fought back against that claim.

However, the player he said that in reference to, Harry Maguire, when, far from being a leader, he was in the midst of contractual uncertainty.

Since those comments, Maguire has had his contract option taken up, a decision deemed a “no-brainer” by Amorim, and he dropped a titanic performance vs Arsenal.

Now looking like a player reborn in a new system and a manager who trusts him to do his best, Amorim said Maguire has stepped up to his challenge.

Amorim said: “I think he has changed the way he sees himself more than what I’m doing because I believe a lot in Harry. I said when he signed a new contract that he needed to improve on the pitch and outside the pitch.

“You can see now the way he plays is different. He feels like a more important player in the team and as a leader, I feel he’s a leader again.”

Harry Maguire has become an example at Man Utd

Not for the first time, Maguire was written off under a new manager at Old Trafford, and not for the first time, he’s proven everyone wrong and become indispensable again.

While there are players who started looking for new challenges at the first sign of adversity, Maguire has had to face adversity almost every season he’s been at the club.

Instead of cowering down and making excuses for himself, he has come back from the brink repeatedly and reminded multiple managers of his ability.

Those intangibles have helped him convince Ruben Amorim as well and after the manager’s proclamation that he’s a leader again, sets him on the path to flourish under another manager.

He’s an example to follow for the rest of the Man Utd squad.
