Manchester United are due to re-open their Carrington training ground (today), according to reports.

It has been shut since Thursday amid the cancellation of games against Brentford and Brighton.

United’s next game is against Newcastle on 27 December and it seems the players are back in to start preparing.

Captain Harry Maguire has posted an image on Instagram of himself returning to the training ground after the period away.

In terms of time, United should have enough days to prepare for the game at St James’ Park.

It remains to be seen how many of the players are fit to get back on the grass with United only having seven players available for the Brighton game.

It would appear Maguire is safe and well, but we await updates on who else is in or out. Premier League clubs do not have to release information on the identities of the players who have tested positive.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard have been pictured training independently with the training ground closed.

That could be an indication that they are clear but until confirmed information comes out, that is just speculation.

It is clear Maguire is looking forward to getting back out there and resuming the Ralf Rangnick era.

Rangnick has been unfortunate with the timing of the outbreak, which is the worst United have been hit since the beginning of the pandemic.

Perhaps he has been able to communicate what he wants with video and individual sessions but United still need more time on the training ground to learn his ideas.

That work should start today, and hopefully he has the bulk of his squad to work with, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that Maguire was joined by the likes of Marcus Rashford and Raphael Varane.
