Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo pictured training away from Carrington with Manchester United base shut down

Manchester United’s game with Brentford was cancelled and did not take place last night as scheduled.

This was due to a mini-Covid outbreak which led to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground being closed on Monday.

United are still preparing for Saturday’s match with Brighton as planned, but it is not exactly training as usual, with the squad working on their fitness from home.

Cristiano Ronaldo shared an image on Instagram working out from his home gym, blowing a kiss to his partner Georgina Rodriguez.

Anthony Martial sighting

Another player spotted working out in the gym was rumoured wantaway forward Anthony Martial.

Martial had not been available for selection for the Brentford game due to a knee injury sustained in his first training session under interim boss Ralf Rangnick. This had led to him missing fixtures against Crystal Palace, Young Boys, and Norwich City.

In the meantime, Martial’s agent told Sky Sports the player wanted to leave, before Ralf Rangnick dismissed the claims and said the player must speak to him personally if he does wish to make a January exit, and not via the media or his agent.

Martial shared an image, presumably from his home gym, implying he was feeling fit and strong after a workout.

The main takeaway from this is that Martial is focusing on his fitness and trying to ensure he is available for selection as soon as possible.

Getting into United’s side won’t be easy, with Edinson Cavani also closing in on a return to action.

United are playing with two strikers under Ralf Rangnick and Martial is the fifth choice. He has started only two Premier League games all season and four in all competitions, scoring once.
