Ruben Amorim is set to make his debut as Manchester United’s new head coach later this month.

Just four days after Erik ten Hag was sacked, Manchester United announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim as his replacement.

However, due to a notice period in his contract, Ruben Amorim will begin work at Carrington on November 11th – the start of the international break.

His first game will come against former United coach Kieran McKenna‘s Ipswich Town on November 24th, and all eyes will be on how Amorim sets up his team.

Amorim is expected to implement a 3-4-3 formation at United after enjoying huge success with it in Portugal.

Lisandro Martinez will hope to be one of the three centre-backs in Amorim’s system, but there is now a chance the 26-year-old will be banned for the trip to Ipswich later this month.

Lisandro Martinez VAR controversy vs Chelsea

Ruud van Nistelrooy picked up a point following a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

It was a scrappy encounter which burst into life late on with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Moises Caicedo. Thankfully, United avoided going down to 10 men late on following a challenge from Martinez.

The 26-year-old caught Cole Palmer on the knee following a lunging tackle, and it was sent to VAR for review.

Despite Gary Neville and Roy Keane suggesting Martinez should have been sent off, he was let off the hook with only a yellow card.

VAR explained why Martinez was not sent off, with officials describing the tackle as “reckless” but not serious foul play.

Lisandro Martinez on brink of being suspended

Martinez’s yellow card against Chelsea was his fourth of the season, meaning he is now one away from a match suspension.

If a player picks up five yellow cards before gameweek 19, they will be banned for one match.

United are up next against PAOK in the Europa League before facing Leicester City in the Premier League – two games that will be led by interim manager Van Nistelrooy.

It means that if Martinez picks up a yellow card against the Foxes on Sunday afternoon, he will be suspended for Amorim’s first game in charge against Ipswich Town.

Kobbie Mainoo must also be careful as he finds himself on four yellow cards, but he is expected to miss the Leicester match through injury.
