Manchester United’s season from now on relies on cup competitions with the league a lost cause.
Given how terrible Manchester United have been through this season to date, even if a switch is flipped this weekend, a top-half finish would be a miracle.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 13 | 24 | 8 | 5 | 11 | 28 | 34 | -6 | 29 |
United sit 13th in the league, while off the pitch Ineos’ relentless cost-cutting process has continued despite how unpopular it is making them.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has met fans to discuss rising ticket prices and the club’s financial situation which is causing this whole situation.
However, the more effective method of cost-cutting would be getting rid of some high earners in Ruben Amorim’s squad who are expendable.
Now, it seems Ineos could still get rid of Casemiro this month.

Casemiro could still leave Manchester United
Casemiro’s position at United has become very expendable under Amorim.
Earlier this month, the United head coach revealed this during an interview in which he was quizzed over Casemiro’s lack of minutes.
Amorim suggested Casemiro was struggling with the physical demands of the Premier League. This explains why he hasn’t played a minute of league football since the shambolic showing against Newcastle back in December.
Casemiro’s possible exit was linked until the very end of the window before it ultimately failed to transpire, despite United working hard to make it happen.
Now, United in Focus understands after speaking with Graeme Bailey, that there is still a slim chance of the Brazilian finding a loan this month – with markets around the world still open.
It is understood that Corinthians have shown an interest in taking Casemiro on loan – they are not the first Brazilian team to have a look at his situation.
However, such is the size of Casemiro’s deal – even a short-term loan is hugely difficult and just about unworkable – with a wage of £350,000-a-week.
The Brazil window remains open until the end of this month – so it can’t be totally discounted that something could come up for Casemiro, but United sources confirm it is unlikely.
Moving back to Brazil appears to be Casemiro’s best option, with the chance of game-time for United severely limited.
Sekou Kone can replace Casemiro
Casemiro has only played 19 minutes of football this year, with Toby Collyer overtaking him in the pecking order – which suggests the Brazilian would not be missed.
| Rank | CM | CM |
| 1st | Bruno Fernandes | Manuel Ugarte |
| 2nd | Kobbie Mainoo | Toby Collyer |
| 3rd | Christian Eriksen | Casemiro |
Due to this, a replacement won’t be leant on too heavily, with 18-year-old Sekou Kone showing signs he is ready to step up, it could be perfect timing.
Kone could turn out to be a Casemiro replacement despite only costing £1m.
United’s recruitment policy under Ineos is to sign young players like Kone as opposed to expensive ageing stars like Casemiro and it could pay off sooner than Jason Wilcox would have thought.
