A season of change at Manchester United has placed questions over the future of Alejandro Garnacho.
Beginning the season with an impressive individual goal in the Community Shield, and a two-goal two-assist performance against Barnsley, hopes were high for FA Cup Final hero Alejandro Garnacho.
Yet by time Erik ten Hag was fired in mid-October, Alejandro Garnacho had only two Premier League goals to his name. A failure to produce when it mattered in front of goal from all of United’s front players was a contributory factor to the Dutchman’s demise.
Garnacho has similarly struggled under new head coach Ruben Amorim. He has been tasked with playing a new role in a new tactical system, but has only scored two goals in 2025.
There are questions over Garnacho’s future, especially with Matheus Cunha set to be signed, and there is an extra element in the mix to consider too.
Alejandro Garnacho gets Javier Saviola backing
Alejandro Garnacho has been starting games regularly for Manchester United, amid injuries to Joshua Zirkzee and Amad.
And while it has not been the cleanest of seasons for Garnacho, he can still boast 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
Whatever his future holds, the 20-year-old is learning under Amorim and developing new sides to his game, and former Argentina star Javier Saviola likes what he sees.
Saviola is quoted via Argentine outlet El Intransigente: “He has a lot of personality, he doesn’t give up and he’s always on the ball. He never gives up in one-on-one situations.
“Now he’s adding goals to his game, something he was lacking a bit before, and he’s appearing closer to the box.”
Last season Garnacho scored 10 goals and added 5 assists in all competitions, so this season his numbers have improved in terms of assists.
Amid a tricky season for Garnacho, hearing Saviola’s praise will mean a lot for the youngster.

Amid a changing situation for Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho could be moved on, and if he stays, he might be anxious about his international role at the 2026 World Cup.
Garnacho was not included in the Argentina squad for the March internationals, and his role at next year’s tournament could go either way.
Saviola has belief Garnacho can be part of a big future for the nation, listing him among the country’s top prospects.
“When the time comes for players like Messi and Otamendi to retire, I think the national team has a great future with Julian Alvarez, Garnacho, and Diablito Echeverri, among others.”
However Garnacho chooses to assess this season, positively or negatively, he must ensure 2025-26 is one of progression, to secure his place in the World Cup squad.
And the way the situation appears to be trending, Garnacho’s future could be away from Old Trafford.
