‘I have seen enough…’ – The hidden academy message in Ruben Amorim’s latest Man United comments

Ruben Amorim will be desperate to halt Manchester United’s losing streak and end 2024 on a high.

For the first time in his coaching career, Ruben Amorim has lost three consecutive matches after the disappointing 2-0 defeat to Wolves last time out.

Manchester United have now slumped down to 14th in the Premier League table and European qualification is looking more and more unlikely this season.

However, the turn of the year offers an opportunity for a clean slate, and the Red Devils can end the calendar year with a win when Newcastle United visit Old Trafford on Monday evening.

Ahead of United’s final Premier League match of 2024, Ruben Amorim has sent a message asking supporters to keep faith in his long-term project.

Ruben Amorim’s message to Man United supporters

Earlier this month, Amorim called for patience among the fanbase after the 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Since then, United have lost a further three games making it five defeats in the month of December. Losing to Newcastle would see Amorim break an unwanted 62-year record.

Ahead of the Newcastle clash on Monday, Amorim has sent a message to supporters in his final programme notes of 2024.

“When I took this job, I knew that I was signing up for a lot of work,” Amorim said.

“If we are to make the long-term changes that we want to make to Manchester United, then we have to go through that step by step. We are looking to implement a new way of playing, at the busiest time of the year, so there are short-term costs for our long-term aims. 

“I will say, though, that the players are working hard to take on and use all the new information and instructions they are getting. The longer they do this, the easier it will become for them, and then the comfort and confidence in our game will grow.”

“We also have to work on longer-term objectives such as creating the right environment and culture for success, and working on the pathway between our academy and first team to develop players with the qualities we need to reach our high ambitions as a club.

“I have seen enough in the last few weeks to recognise that we have many of the ingredients we need for success, and I remain as convinced as I was on my first day here that we will achieve it.”

Ruben Amorim will show faith in Man United academy

In Amorim’s matchday notes, he emphasised the creation of a pathway between the academy and first team, and his record with younger players is nothing short of superb.

27 Sportings players debuted under Amorim as part of his title-winning project in Portugal, and he will adopt a similar approach at United.

Recent results have proven to Amorim that his current squad is not good enough to compete at the highest level, and financial regulations will stop United from splashing the cash in the transfer market.

Looking to the exciting academy stars at United is one route that Amorim will not be afraid to go down, and he has already made a start. Godwill Kukonki has featured in Amorim’s squad at United, while Jack Moorhouse could step up into first-team training after impressing the Portuguese.

Chido Obi Martin is also impressing after joining United’s academy over the summer. A call up to Amorim’s first-team squad is only a matter of time.
