Manchester United legend Gary Neville irked fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher with his Premier League top-four prediction for the up-and-coming season.

The Red Devils will begin their 2024-25 Premier League campaign on Friday when they host Fulham at Old Trafford, with kick-off slated for 8pm UK time.

Erik ten Hag’s men head into their Premier League opener hot on the heels of their Community Shield defeat to Manchester City on Saturday at Wembley.

The 54-year-old Manchester United manager is set to take charge of the Red Devils for his third season after he inked a contract extension this summer.

Erik ten Hag oversaw United’s worst league finish in the Premier League era in the 2023-24 campaign, with the Red Devils ending up in eighth place in the table.

However, United ensured their place in the Europa League for the 2024-25 season after beating Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final in May.

Neville’s Man Utd prediction

Speaking on the Stick to Football show, Gary Neville made his stance clear on how he feels the top four will play out in the Premier League next season.

The 49-year-old Manchester United legend admitted that it would be more likely for both Arsenal and Manchester City to finish inside the Premier League top four.

However, Neville revealed that he was not convinced that Liverpool would make the top four, which sparked a reaction from Reds legend Jamie Carragher.

“The top four will look like?” Neville asked on The Overlap.

“We have to go Arsenal and Manchester City because we all collectively agree. I do [agree about Man United getting in the top four]. I am not sure [on Liverpool getting top four].”

Responding to Neville, Carragher asked: “Do you think Manchester United will get in, but Liverpool won’t?”

Neville reacted to Carragher by saying ‘maybe’ before the former Liverpool defender called him out for his repeated stance on United in Premier League predictions.

“You say this every season without fail. Bookmark this,” Carragher said.

Neville and Carragher on Man Utd and Liverpool

Arne Slot took charge of Liverpool this summer after Jurgen Klopp stepped down as head coach at Anfield following the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Neville admitted that he would be ‘surprised’ if Liverpool didn’t finish in the top six after Arne Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp in the hot seat.

“Every season, yeah. I am quite often wrong as well,” he said.

“It gets played back during the season, it’s quite enjoyable. I am going to go [with] Tottenham – the surprise of the season, it can be anything. Surprise [if] Liverpool don’t finish in the top six.”

Neville’s stance on United making the top four next season led to Carragher calling the Sky Sports pundit out for his unwavering belief in Erik ten Hag’s men.

“You are saying that to get headlines,” Carragher said.

“If Man United don’t win their first two games, everyone will be talking about Ten Hag’s position.”
