Manchester United and Denmark star Christian Eriksen did not pause for one moment when naming the most underrated player of all time.
Christian Eriksen is out of contract with Manchester United next summer and the Danish midfielder’s long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
The 32-year-old United midfielder first arrived at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag after he left Brentford and completed a free transfer to the Red Devils.
Eriksen earned widespread praise during his debut season at the Premier League club and established himself as a key figure under Erik ten Hag at the time.
However, the ex-Ajax and Tottenham ace saw his playing time limited in the 2023-24 campaign, with Eriksen managing only 28 appearances across all competitions.
Eriksen started only 12 Premier League matches in 22 appearances last season, with the Denmark international picking up two assists and scoring once for United.
Despite his influence waning at Old Trafford, the former Spurs midfielder played a key role for Denmark at Euro 2024 in Germany this summer.
Eriksen picks underrated player
Speaking to Goal, Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen took part in a series of quick-fire Q&As and was asked who is the most underrated player.
Eriksen wasted no time in naming Real Madrid and Croatia captain Luka Modric as his pick for the most underrated player in football.
The Denmark international left Ajax in 2013 and signed for Tottenham only a year after Luka Modric completed his sensational move to Real Madrid.
Modric has been a linchpin midfield figure at Los Blancos and enjoyed incredible success during his time in the Spanish capital.
The 38-year-old Croatian midfielder has lifted four La Liga titles, a whopping six Champions League trophies and two Copa del Reys during his time with Madrid.
Modric broke the decade-long dominance that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo had over the Ballon d’Or award after he captured France Football’s top prize in 2018.
Eriksen has crossed paths with Modric on the pitch during his time with Tottenham and during his playing career with Denmark.
Man Utd star Eriksen on his future
Eriksen has admitted that he has not been “satisfied” with his first-team minutes at Old Trafford and spoke with Erik ten Hag about the situation.
“I have previously stated that I am not satisfied with not playing, but it’s not something that keeps me up at night,” he told Danish magazine Tipsbladet in March, as per The Evening Standard.
“The team is performing, and I must respect the role you have alongside. For my part, it has been about working hard and focusing on being fresh for every game, and I am.
“It is easier now to accept my role than it would have been before.”
Eriksen added: “I have had a conversation with Erik about being unhappy with the situation and wanting to play as much as possible, but I am available and need to be available for the team, which I am and always will be.
“He said it was the team he had chosen, and Kobbie [Mainoo] is doing well and the rest of the midfield is also performing well, so there is competition for places, which is expected when playing for a top club. There is great competition within the team.”
