Erik ten Hag urged to do everything in his power to keep hold of first-team Man Utd star after receiving clear-cut warning

Erik ten Hag has been told that it would be a “big disaster” if one Manchester United star made his exit from Old Trafford this summer.

That is according to former England manager Sam Allardyce, who has spotlighted the impact that one Manchester United player can make under Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag has seen a boost to his first-team United squad with the signings of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and Leny Yoro from Lille this summer.

The 54-year-old manager has also seen other players offloaded, including the sales of Willy Kambwala, Donny van de Beek, Alvaro Fernandez and Mason Greenwood.

The likes of Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane made their exits from Old Trafford after their contracts with United expired at the end of the 2023-24 season.

United are still expected to reinforce this summer, with the Red Devils set to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.

Noussair Mazraoui’s arrival at Old Trafford is also set to pave the way for Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s exit from the club, with the United right-back to sign for West Ham.

The Red Devils could still sign a defensive midfielder and Burnley’s Sander Berge and Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte have been linked with United.

Allardyce’s warning to Ten Hag

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Sam Allardyce insisted that Manchester United should not sell Scott McTominay this summer.

Scott McTominay is out of contract with United next summer and the Scottish midfielder has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old United star was impressive in the final third last season, with McTominay scoring seven times in 32 Premier League appearances.

Fulham have been linked with McTominay and the Premier League club reportedly tabled a £20m bid for the United player earlier this month.

However, it is believed that United are holding out for a £30m asking price, despite McTominay’s current contract set to expire in 2025.

“Letting Scott McTominay go would be a big disaster for Man United, he’s become a goalscorer for Scotland and for United,” Allardyce said.

Allardyce’s talks Ten Hag and Man Utd

Allardyce has already made his prediction for where he thinks United will finish in the Premier League table in the 2024-25 season under Ten Hag.

The 69-year-old former West Ham and Bolton Wanderers boss believes that Ten Hag “lost a few players” in the dressing room towards the end of last season.

“It depends on whether the players are onside with him or not,” Allardyce said.

“I had a sneaky suspicion at the back end of last season that he lost a few players.

“I think that is a key element in terms of trust between the manager, players and backroom staff [and] is an absolute must if you’re going to finish in any position in the Premier League that you surprise people with.

“Man United are going to massively surprise people if they finish first or second but you need to be all on board and get unity, it looks like they lost that.”
