Amorim also took public swipes at Neville ahead of his exit from Old Trafford, with the Red Devils now on the hunt for a new permanent head coach for the club.

Gary Neville would welcome Man Utd bringing Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone to Old Trafford
Diego Simeone was linked with Manchester United in the past and the 55-year-old eccentric Argentine has deeply impressed during his time at Atletico Madrid.
United are expected to appoint a permanent replacement for former Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim at the end of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
Speaking to Fanalysis, United legend Gary Neville thinks that Diego Simeone could be one pick for the Red Devils and the club should spend big on him if needed.

The 50-year-old ex-United captain used Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde as an example of another high-profile coach alongside the “aggressive” Simeone.
“Simeone is a 4-4-2 beast of a manager who plays aggressive and attacking [football], it’s a bit defensive at times, but it’s aggressive,” Neville said.
“Manchester United have spent £20m a year on two or three players a year on wages.
“Why not just spend £20m a year on a manager and get the best manager in the world, whether that’s Simeone or Valverde – whoever it is – go and get the best manager in the world Manchester United can get.
“Invest all the money in that; I think the manager is the most important appointment at any football club, everyone thinks that, it’s not just me.”
The opportunity for Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone might have passed for Man Utd
Diego Simeone extended his contract with Atletico Madrid back in 2023 and the ex- Racing Club boss is tied down to his current deal with the La Liga outfit until 2027.
The Atletico boss has lifted two La Liga titles, two Europa League trophies and a Copa del Rey amid the dominance of Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spanish football.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been tipped as one of the favourites to arrive at Old Trafford in the summer as the long-term successor to Amorim.
But it remains to be seen if the 51-year-old Austrian manager makes the decision to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season and become the next United manager.
