Ruben Amorim has made his position clear on what two Manchester United legends have said about the Red Devils’ poor start to the season under him at Old Trafford.
The 40-year-old Manchester United manager attended the Carrington training complex on Friday afternoon for his pre-match press conference.
United will return to action at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and the Red Devils will host Sunderland for their final match ahead of the October international break.
Ruben Amorim is under huge pressure ahead of the Premier League match on the weekend after United’s setback against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Brentford dominated United in the opening 20 minutes of last Saturday’s contest and the Red Devils were left chasing the Premier League tie after going 2-0 down.

Ruben Amorim responds to Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville after the brutal criticism from the two Man Utd legends
Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney was crestfallen after Brentford’s 3-1 win and the England legend did not beat around the bush with his scathing criticism.
Wayne Rooney was not alone with his brutal assessment of the Red Devils’ performance and United legend Gary Neville was equally ruthless with his verdict.
Ruben Amorim has now defended his position against the likes of Rooney and Gary Neville by suggesting that the criticism around United would be expected.
“It’s normal, we cannot run away from the results,” he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.
“And then you have the baggage from last season. Last season doesn’t matter to me, in relation to the system we have already [spoken] about that. We had six games this season and we have lost three.”
Amorim added: “And if we lost against Arsenal because of the system? It’s your job to make the opinions.
“When you saw the game against City, was the first thing that you thought when the game started was the system?
“I don’t think you thought about the system in that moment. And Brentford. The way we concede goals, create chances, that [has] nothing to do with the system, that is my opinion.”
Ruben Amorim breaks down the ‘most important thing’ he saw from Man Utd’s Premier League defeat to Brentford
United have failed to win back-to-back Premier League matches under Amorim since the Portuguese coach left Sporting CP and replaced Erik ten Hag at the club in 2024.
The Red Devils’ disappointing performance came on the back of 10-man United beating 10-man Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford in the Premier League last month.
Speaking on his United tactical system, Amorim added: “I’m not saying this team will do better in a different system, that’s not my point.
“My point is, if I look at the games we didn’t win, the most important thing when I watched the game is not [that] we lost because of the system.
“That is my opinion, then people have different opinions and that’s ok.”
United are 14th in the table and Sunderland are fifth ahead of their Premier League encounter on Saturday, with kick-off slated for 3pm UK time.
