Gary Lineker has insisted that he has noticed “strange decisions” being made at Manchester United after Ruben Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford came to an end.
Manchester United are now without a permanent manager and Darren Fletcher has taken over from Ruben Amorim in the immediate aftermath of the latter’s sacking.
WOULD you consider Eddie Howe to become Manchester United manager?
Is he the right man to replace Ruben Amorim? Or does this have disaster written all over it?
Amorim’s time as United manager ended on Monday morning, with the 40-year-old Portuguese coach’s last match in charge being against Leeds United last weekend.
The 40-year-old former United manager had been at Old Trafford for 14 months, having exited Sporting CP in 2024 and replacing Erik ten Hag at the Red Devils.
But tensions between United and Amorim started to emerge in recent months and the ex-Red Devils head coach became vocal with his criticism of the club’s hierarchy.

Gary Lineker shares his clear-cut feelings on the Ineos call made at Man Utd after Ruben Amorim’s exit
Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday evening was the Red Devils’ first Premier League match in the post-Ruben Amorim era.
Manchester United Under-18s boss Darren Fletcher oversaw the match at Turf Moor and will be in the dugout again for the start of the Red Devils’ FA Cup campaign.
Fletcher’s appointment as United caretaker boss is believed to be temporary, with the Red Devils tipped to bring in an interim head coach until the end of the season.
Speaking on his podcast, Gary Lineker was left scratching his head over Ineos’ handling of United in the aftermath of Amorim’s sacking by the Premier League club.
What should Darren Fletcher change for the next game, and what should he keep the same?

“I think they’re already starting to make strange decisions, aren’t they, even post-Amorim?” Lineker asked on The Rest Is Football.
“Bringing [in] Darren Fletcher, fine, perfectly understandable to bring someone like that into run the team for a minute.
“And then they’re talking about bringing another interim in until the end of the season, which doesn’t really make much sense.”
Gary Lineker on the next permanent Man Utd manager to succeed Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford
United are expected to wait until the end of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign to appoint Amorim’s long-term successor ahead of the pre-season summer tour.
Lineker is unsure who United will approach for the managerial role and questioned if England manager Thomas Tuchel would even want to come to Old Trafford.

“Then they’re going to probably appoint someone in the summer, who that will be, I don’t know, who would go there as well by that?” Lineker asked.
“There’s [sic] a few people available now, [who], probably, you mentioned Thomas Tuchel. But why would someone of that grade walk into that club at [that] moment?
“Because of all the examples that Alan [Shearer] gave recently. It’s become a bit of a basket case of a football club.
“There’s clearly all sorts of shenanigans going on at the very top.”
Thomas Tuchel had previously been linked with United during Erik ten Hag’s reign amid Ineos’ end-of-season review after the 2023-24 Premier League campaign.
