Premier League legend Alan Shearer took full aim at Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe after Ruben Amorim was dismissed from his role as Manchester United manager.

Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe had backed Ruben Amorim publicly earlier in the 2025-26 Premier League season after a bumpy start to Manchester United’s campaign.

However, fast-forward to January 2026 and United on Monday confirmed that 40-year-old Amorim had been relieved of his duties as Red Devils head coach.

Amorim’s sacking as United manager came after the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw against Leeds United and the Portuguese coach’s scathing assessment of the club, too.

Alan Shearer’s reaction to Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe axing Ruben Amorim from Man Utd

Ruben Amorim was Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first major appointment for a Manchester United manager after former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag was sacked.

Amorim met the same fate as United predecessor Erik ten Hag, with the former Sporting CP head coach’s time at Old Trafford lasting only 14 months.

Alan Shearer compared Amorim’s sacking to Ineos’ handling of Ten Hag’s 2024 contract extension and Dan Ashworth’s exit after pursuing the latter at Newcastle.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, he said: β€œBut I have to say, the people running the football club have to accept the blame as well that they need.

β€œI mean, they made an absolute mess of it. And not the first time we’ve said this.

β€œI mean, if you look at every corner that they’ve tried to turn and every decision that they’ve made, it’s been an absolute joke.

β€œI mean, whether it was giving Ten Hag a new deal, whether it was then sacking Ten Hag, whether it was paying Newcastle for Dan Ashworth, then him going on gardening leave, and then them sacking Dan Ashworth and then giving him a payoff, and then going to get Ruben Amorim and not accepting he has to come in now, and then paying the money for him and then his staff, and then what, I don’t know, 14 months later, 15 months later, sacking him, I mean, and then the list goes on and on.”

Ineos and United co-owner Ratcliffe were not alone in being put on full blast, with Shearer also calling out CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox.

β€œWhether it’s staff, whether it’s other decisions, the owners, Sir Jim Radcliffe, Wilcox, Berrada, they have to accept their blame as well, because they have made an absolute mess of every decision they’ve made since they’ve been in there,” he said.

Amorim’s exit from United paved the way for the Red Devils to install Darren Fletcher as caretaker manager in the immediate short term at the club.

Darren Fletcher took charge of the Red Devils on Wednesday evening for United’s 2-2 draw against Burnley in the Premier League clash at Turf Moor.
