The Athletic reporter Laurie Whitwell has shared what he has heard about Benjamin Sesko’s injury after Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool last Sunday.

Benjamin Sesko led the frontline for Manchester United against Liverpool and the 22-year-old Slovenia international netted against the Reds in the first half of the tie.

However, the United striker took a nasty tumble in the opening 45 minutes after Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate shoved him while he was chasing the ball.

Sesko slid across the pitch after Ibrahima Konate’s challenge and the Slovenian forward dropped into the low dip area around the pitch and crashed into a sponsorship board.

Laurie Whitwell explains Benjamin Sesko’s injury situation at Old Trafford after the Man Utd vs Liverpool match

Benjamin Sesko only played the first half of Manchester United’s encounter with Liverpool before Michael Carrick replaced him with Amad Diallo for the second half.

Michael Carrick admitted after the Man Utd match that a previous problem that Sesko had been carrying was aggravated after the Ibrahima Konate incident.

Speaking on The Athletic’s Talk of the Devils podcast, Laurie Whitwell explained that he has heard Sesko has been “feeling better” since his injury last weekend.

“Just actually touching on Sesko when Andy was mentioning there, I’m told that even on the Monday, he was feeling better from this sort of injury that he picked up,” he said.

“So, I would hope that he’s okay for Sunderland.”

All eyes are on whether or not Benjamin Sesko will be ready for Man Utd’s next Premier League match vs Sunderland

Sesko has impressed for the Red Devils since United legend Carrick took his place in the Old Trafford dugout after Ruben Amorim was sacked as Man Utd manager.

The former RB Leipzig striker has netted a superb seven times in his last 13 Premier League matches under Carrick after a major turnaround in form at the club.

Sesko, who arrived at Old Trafford last summer from RB Leipzig, has found the back of the net 12 times and picked up an assist in 32 matches across all competitions.

It remains unclear if the United star will be ready to return from injury for the Red Devils’ Premier League visit to the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.
