Anthony Elanga working hard to return from injury

Anthony Elanga is pushing for a return as he seeks to comeback from a shoulder injury which has kept him out since January.

Elanga was Manchester United’s under-23s top scorer with eight goals before falling awkwardly in the team’s first match of 2021 against Leicester City.

The 18-year-old has shared a post from a cryotherapy chamber, used to help rehabilitate his injury.

Elanga added a couple of emojis including a sand timer, hinting that he hopes it won’t be too long before he is passed fit again.

In the middle of February, The Athletic reported Elanga was expected to make his return in six weeks.

So we could see the teenage forward back in action by the end of March, if all is going to plan. Elanga’s message suggests there is some confidence he may be on or ahead of schedule.

Exciting prospect

There’s good reason for Elanga’s return to be newsworthy. He was in outstanding form for the under-23s, his first season in the side after stepping up from the under-18s.

Just like Shola Shoretire and Hannibal Mejbri were promoted to the first team last month, Elanga would surely have been in there with them, if he had not been out injured.

Elanga plays in Marcus Rashford’s position, and with the United forward battling ankle and shoulder injuries, there should be an opportunity for Elanga to get some first team minutes, especially if the team can wrap up Champions League qualification with a couple of games to spare.

He needs to hit the ground running upon his return, and no wonder he is excited to get back to action. This is an opportunity he has to seize.
