What Man United fans chanted to Ruben Amorim at half-time against Newcastle United speaks volumes

Manchester United fans made their feelings clear during the latest defeat to Newcastle United.

Before becoming Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim had never lost three successive matches. Monday’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle means the Red Devils have now suffered four defeats on the bounce.

United will end 2024 in 14th place in the Premier League table after goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton handed the visitors a comfortable victory at Old Trafford.

It was an unforgivable first-half performance from United with Amorim forced to hook Joshua Zirkzee after just 32 minutes to stop Newcastle from running riot.

Boos rang around Old Trafford when referee Simon Hooper blew the half-time whistle, but United fans also aimed a chant towards Ruben Amorim.

Man United fans five-word chant towards Ruben Amorim

Amorim warned fans a “storm” was coming, and it has arrived sooner than perhaps even he expected.

The 39-year-old has hardly had a chance to breathe since arriving at Carrington in November. Six defeats across December prove just how much work there is to be done in 2025.

Amorim has called for patience as he implements his ideas at Old Trafford, and supporters have rallied behind him even after the disastrous first half against Newcastle.

As reported by journalist Laurie Whitwell, United fans in the Stretford End were heard chanting “Amorim’s red and white army” as both sides headed to their dressing rooms.

It is a strong show of support from the United fans, who provoked an improved performance in the second half from Amorim’s side.

During his first few weeks as head coach, Amorim has spoke transparently to fans about the need to suffer in the short term.

The timing of Amorim’s appointment was difficult with Ineos throwing him into a hectic winter schedule with hardly any time on the training pitch.

The bad news for United and Amorim is that the games don’t get any easier. Up next is a trip to Anfield to face league leaders and arch-rivals Liverpool. After that? A trip to Arsenal in the FA Cup.

But the silver lining for Amorim is that he will have more time to work with the players in training in January after a staggering nine games in December.

While the pressure will continue to build, United fans made it clear on Monday that they will continue to back Amorim despite the poor run of results.
