Gabriele Biancheri grabs 24th goal of the season, latest Man Utd U21 display is clear message to Ruben Amorim

Manchester United’s U21 side was in action on Friday night, and a familiar name was back at his dominating best.

The depths of exciting talent inside Manchester United’s fabled academy are increasingly impressive, with some of the standout players called up into Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Despite this, United seem to have enough talent at each level to see no drop off, and Gabriele Biancheri was the prime example of this on Friday night.

With Chido Obi out of the U21 squad as he prepares to return to senior action on Sunday at St. James’, Biancheri was handed the chance to start up front, and he took this chance and ran with it.

After a red-hot start to the season, Biancheri’s 2025 saw injuries and a lack of minutes up front mean his numbers dried up. But on Friday, he was back at his best.

Biancheri’s Friday night performance was a clear message to Amorim and Jason Wilcox.

Gabriele Biancheri continues to prove he deserves a chance

With the season winding down, United’s first team Premier League campaign is all but over already, with very little to play for. Due to this, it is expected that Amorim could hand several academy players their debut.

On Friday night, Biancheri put his name right back into the hat to be one of these names as he grabbed a brace for United’s U21 side during a 4-1 Premier League 2 win over Reading.

Also starring in the game was Sam Mather, with a goal and two assists, as he continued to play for the academy as his loan to Tranmere just has not worked out.

James Scanlon was also among the goals for his 21st academy goal of the season, another player Amorim must take note of and give a chance to in the near future.

However, it was Biancheri who sent the biggest message of the night in United’s 4-1 win over Reading with his 23rd and 24th goals of the season.

Ruben Amorim must give Gabriele Biancheri a chance this season

Biancheri has had a phenomenal season, but his latest statement performance is one which should spike an interest from Amorim, as it came at U21 level, which is the level players have had to impress at before getting into first team plans.

United are thought to be planning Biancheri’s debut, yet there has been no indication of him getting rewards just yet, not even in first-team training.

Ahead of United’s summer rebuild of as many as 10 sales, it would be wise for Amorim to give as many academy talents a look as possible, as it could save certain positions from needing additions this summer.

The forward line could be overhauled with Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha both wanted by United this summer; however, reinforcements below these two big signings will also be needed, and the academy could provide that.

Biancheri has proven himself time after time this season, and although not a physical standout, Amorim needs to give him a chance or risk losing him this summer, with Como already trying to sign him in January.
