Whether Bruno Fernandes has a release clause in Manchester United contract amid Saudi Pro League claims

Bruno Fernandes is the latest Manchester United player to see himself become a target elsewhere ahead of the summer transfer window.

It has been a brilliant season individually for the club captain, racking up an impressive 19 goals and 18 assists so far across all competitions and being pivotal in the Europa League run.

Due to this form, which has been consistent over the past five years, Bruno Fernandes is beginning to be considered a club legend at Manchester United. This form has been the main positive for the club, and Fernandes has still been making history at United amid all the struggles.

His tremendous performances were always going to attract interest, with Real Madrid reported to want Fernandes in April with a £90m fee cited as the likely asking price.

Now, Al-Hilal are keen to sign Fernandes from United, despite the Red Devils having little interest in selling him, as Ruben Amorim considers his captain as a key player.

At Old Trafford, Fernandes is considered one of four United players who are unsellable this summer, alongside Harry Maguire, Amad Diallo, and Patrick Dorgu.

Does Bruno Fernandes have a release clause in his Manchester United contract?

While United are not considering a sale, there have been reports that there is actually a release clause in the contract, with A Riyadhiah in Saudi Arabia claiming Al-Hilal could look to ‘break’ Fernandes’ contract.

However, speaking with transfer expert Graeme Bailey, United in Focus have learned that there is “no release clause in Fernandes’ contract” which puts the ball into United’s court.

“There is not a belief in and around United that Bruno Fernandes will leave the club anytime soon – we know the Pro League are going to have a big summer, and we know the Pro League and Manchester United are having active conversations about a number of players – such as Casemio and Andre Onana, but it is no shock that they might ask about other players including Bruno.

“But Bruno, in the short-to-medium term, is crucial to United – he is one of the few key players that they can rely on, he inspires from the front – he is by far their best player.

“Whether Bruno fancies one more big move in his career, that is a situation that could emerge – who better to explain to him the benefits of playing in Saudi Arabia than Cristiano Ronaldo! But safe to say Bruno won’t be moving this summer.”

When there was interest from Madrid, Amorim told reporters that Bruno was ‘going nowhere’, which we imagine will be the same answer he gives anyone who asks about a Saudi move.

How long is left on Bruno Fernandes’ contract?

Despite being 30 years old, Fernandes is a physical phenomenon and shows no signs of breaking down as he has played 52 games this season, rarely being rested.

So, after Fernandes signed a new contract at United running until 2027, it can be assumed he will be at the club until then at the very least.

This would take him until he is 32, however, at this rate, he will be showing no sign of stopping, which could see further contracts extended, allowing him to stay at the club to hopefully see it restored to the top of the game.

Fernandes’ impact at United is irreplaceable, and so selling him would be ridiculous. Instead, Ineos must keep him at the club so he can become an undisputed legend like he deserves.

Perhaps he will even be at the club to see the new 100,000-seater stadium open in 2030.
