With just about a week left in the January transfer window, the clock is ticking for Manchester United’s business and Patrick Dorgu heads the priority list.

From Utd opening talks for Dorgu to the numerous twists and turns in what is quickly becoming an unavoidable transfer saga, it will reach its resolution one way or another soon.

Man Utd have had two bids rejected for Patrick Dorgu already, and with the club navigating trick waters financially, it remains to be seen if they can reach an agreement.

In the meantime, uncertainty prevails over the player’s future with Lecce fighting relegation and a crucial few games coming up.

The manager, Marco Giampaolo has now broken his silence on the less-than-ideal situation for everyone involved.

For Lecce, Dorgu has been ever-present this season and selling him in January would probably mean accepting their fate of relegation this season.

From that point of view, it makes sense that they are holding firm on their valuation of Dorgu, while also pre-empting a summer bidding war for the player.

However, United’s need is urgent which puts them in a weak negotiating position, something which Lecce will try to fully take advantage of.

United can try and rely on unsettling Dorgu with their transfer interest already public and signs of it were visible, with Lecce manager Marco Giampaolo having to answer questions on the same.

Giampaolo broke the silence on Dorgu’s Man Utd transfer links and made a sure claim.

He said: “Top European clubs want him so it’s normal to be affected at some point… but he’s very mature and serious guy.

“I don’t think transfer news are gonna create any issues, this week he’s been working very well.”

Man Utd are in a no-win position

United have put themselves in a no-win position for any player they go after in January because of the condition the team finds itself in.

Ruben Amorim hasn’t made his transfer demands public but that is the only positive thing that has happened to the club in this window.

Selling clubs know United are desperate, ther results speak for themselves, and the precarious financial situation is the biggest added headache on top of it.

They are in a position where they need to buy Dorgu in January, try to fight the “United tax” phenomenon but do so while fighting from underneath.

Dorgu not getting unsettled and forcing things is not making it any easier for them.
