Roma now have a ‘growing concern’ over their reported transfer interest in Joshua Zirkzee after Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim on Monday morning.

Joshua Zirkzee had fallen out of favour with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United in the 2025-26 Premier League season after the 2025 arrival of Benjamin Sesko.

Benjamin Sesko established himself as the first-choice striker under former United manager Amorim, which left Zirkzee scrambling for United first-team minutes.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international had been linked with an exit from Old Trafford in the 2026 January transfer window amid his struggles this season.

Zirkzee has featured more regularly in recent months after Amorim saw the Red Devils lose key players to the 2025 AFCON tournament and injuries as well.

Roma have been heavily linked with Joshua Zirkzee and the Serie A club are considered the favourites to sign the wantaway Manchester United striker.

However, Ruben Amorim’s sacking at United could have thrown a spanner in the works for Zirkzee’s potential exit from the Premier League club this month.

According to Flashscore, Roma are ‘monitoring the situation closely’ at United and believe that the club’s change in manager could ‘complicate matters’ around Zirkzee.

It is believed that the Serie A club’s newfound ‘fear’ is that the Red Devils could make a U-turn on their decision to sell or loan out the Netherlands striker.

Flashscore added that Zirkzee ‘remains firmly attracted’ to returning to Italy, having played for Serie A outfit Bologna before his Old Trafford move in 2024.

It has been reported that the former Bologna forward has ‘been signalling privately’ over his current transfer ‘stance,’ which has ‘not changed’ in light of recent events.

According to reports, Roma-linked Zirkzee is believed to ‘welcome a deal to progress’ a potential exit from Old Trafford and to move to the Stadio Olimpico.

However, Roma have ‘paused contact’ over a potential transfer for Zirkzee and plan to allow the ‘dust to settle and emotions to cool’ after United’s sacking of Amorim.

Zirkzee is under contract with United until 2029 and has made 14 appearances across all competitions and netted twice and registered an assist this season.
