Isak Hansen-Aaroen is convinced that his move from Manchester United to Werder Bremen is a ‘big step in the right direction’ after bringing an end to his time at the Premier League giants.
Earlier this week, when Facundo Pellistri secured his loan switch to Granada, the Uruguayan’s agent sent a shot across the bows of Erik ten Hag, criticising the Manchester United boss after he left Pellistri out of the FA Cup clash with fourth-tier Newport County.
Another cup clash against another EFL outfit may have been something of a ‘final straw’ sort of situation for Isak Hansen-Aaroen too. According to the Manchester Evening News, the 19-year-old Norwegian was disappointed to miss out against Wigan Athletic in round three, despite training with the senior squad in the lead up to that comfortable 2-0 win.

Hansen-Aaroen left United on a permanent basis a few weeks later, departing without ever making a first-team appearance for the Red Devils.
Considering that the future had made no secret of his desire to complete the transition from reserve football to the men’s game, it should come as no real surprise then that he leapt at the opportunity to join Werder Bremen when the Bundesliga outfit came calling in the final week of the January window.
“(This move is) a big step in the right direction,” Hansen-Aaroen tells Kicker. “I’m happy to have the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga for such a big club.”
Plenty of talented youngsters have swapped England for Germany in pursuit of regular game-time at a senior level, and Hansen-Aaroen will be confident of emulating the impact of Jadon Sancho, Jamal Musiala, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and co.
‘Very exciting’
“Isak is a very exciting prospect who has a lot of potential,” beams Clemens Fritz, Werder Bremen’s head of professional football.
“We’re really happy that we’ve managed to convince him that Werder is the best place for his development. His contract would have expired in summer and a lot of suitors would have been vying for his signature. That’s why it’s even better that we’ve pulled off the transfer now.”
Saturday’s trip to Mainz, however, came too soon for Hansen-Aaroen to make his Bremen bow.
