Director admits he’s ‘trying’ to sign Manchester United player on deadline day

Werder Bremen can ‘confirm’ that they are looking to sign Isak Hansen-Aaroen from Premier League giants Manchester United on the final day of the Bundesliga transfer window. 

While Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have established themselves as first-team regulars under Erik ten Hag, it has been a very different story for the likes of Facundo Pellistri and the aforementioned Isak Hansen-Aaroen. 

Pellistri joined Granada on loan on Wednesday, the Uruguayan’s agent aiming a jibe in Ten Hag’s direction as he put pen to paper with the La Liga giants. 

Hansen-Aaroen’s Manchester United career could be ending with a similar sense of frustration, not least from a fanbase who had hoped to see a midfielder of such obvious talent follow in the footsteps of Mainoo and co.

“It may be that we implement another transfer in midfield today,” Clemens Fritz, Werder Bremen’s sporting director, tells Kicker. “And I can confirm that it is Isak. 

“Contractual details still need to be discussed and the medical check must be completed. We are trying to find an agreement but, at the moment, there is no guarantee that it will work.”

Hansen-Aaroen, who has been likened to fellow Norwegian Martin Odegaard and caught the eye against Leeds in pre-season, was reportedly disappointed to miss out on the FA Cup third-round clash with Wigan Athletic (Manchester Evening News).  

And, with his contract expiring in the summer, the Red Devils will not stand in his way as Werder Bremen look to rush through a permanent deal in the next few hours.

‘I can confirm’

Werder’s hopes may be complicated, however, by an airline strike currently taking place in Germany. 

“Of course, (the strikes) influence us,” Fritz adds, keen not to get too far ahead of himself. “But we always have a plan B up our sleeves.”

19-year-old Hansen-Aaroen joined Man United from Tromso back in 2020. He could become the 11^th player to leave Old Trafford since the turn of the year. Hansen-Aaroen will follow in the footsteps of Pellistri, Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, Hannibal Mejbri and co.
