Manchester United have agreed a deal with Lecce to sign Patrick Dorgu. The defender has left Italy to complete a transfer.

United reached an agreement for Dorgu worth £25 million (€30 million) earlier this week.

Dorgu’s last match for Lecce was against Parma on Friday night. The 20-year-old is now on his way to Manchester to undergo his medical.

And spotted on his travels as he prepares to team up with Ruben Amorim at Carrington, Dorgu has broken his silence on his transfer to United.

Patrick Dorgu speaks for first time since Man United agreement

Dorgu will play an integral part in the United manager’s demanding 3-5-2 system.

Widely regarded as one of Europe’s most high-potential wing-backs, Dorgu’s arrival is viewed as a real coup for the Red Devils.

And giving his first thoughts on how he feels ahead of such a big move, the 20-year-old admitted he’s excited at the thought of becoming a United player.

“Yes, it is an opportunity for me,” the 20-year-old said.

The Denmark international is expected to arrive in Manchester around lunchtime (UK time) on Saturday and will become Amorim’s first signing.

Hopes of more to come

Even though Dorgu’s signing is one many fans will be excited about, there is hope United can make at least one more signing before Monday’s deadline.

Amorim would like an attacking player, ideally one that can play out wide if one of his wingers leave.

Marcus Rashford is in talks with Aston Villa and Alejandro Garnacho remains one to watch. However, despite his exit links earlier in the window, Garnacho is less likely to depart after Amorim’s praise.

Nevertheless, with two full days left before the mid-season window slams shut, fans are keeping everything crossed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe can bring in more talent.
