David Ornstein confirms Premier League manager has ‘personally requested’ talks with Man Utd over potential Marcus Rashford deal

Manchester United are set for a whirlwind end to the January transfer window. The Red Devils are expected to be one of England’s busiest clubs before next week’s Deadline Day.

There is so much that still needs to be decided at Manchester United.

The Red Devils are set to welcome Patrick Dorgu from Lecce with Ayden Heaven also joining from Arsenal. It’s possible outgoings that are dominating headlines though.

Although he was made available for transfer, Ruben Amorim’s recent comments on Alejandro Garnacho have essentially ended any hope Chelsea had of signing the Argentine.

There is another player who could leave Old Trafford before Monday night though.

Premier League club open Marcus Rashford talks

Although Marcus Rashford’s preference is to join Barcelona, a move to the Nou Camp looks increasingly unlikely to materialise.

The winger’s weekly wage, which sees him earn in excess of £325,000 (Capology), is proving to be a sticking point.

The fact Barcelona don’t yet have room in their squad to register the Englishman is another problem. So with Hansi Flick’s hands tied, Rashford’s options are limited, to say the least.

There is one potential way out for the 27-year-old though.

According to David Ornstein, Unai Emery has ‘personally requested’ Aston Villa open talks with United’s owners over a potential loan.

Loan only option but finances still a problem

Rashford’s salary at Manchester United is over double that of Villa’s highest-earner, Emi Martinez.

Aston Villa’s Top 5 EarnersWeekly Wage
Emi Martinez£150,000
Youri Tielemans£150,000
Boubacar Kamara£150,000
Amadou Onana£140,000
Donyell Malen£140,000

It’s obvious the Villains will not agree to cover 100 per cent of the forward’s wages, so for a deal to be made possible, either Rashford will need to take a pay cut, or United agree to contribute a significant amount. Neither scenario is ideal, and both come with their own problems.

It is for these reasons that a permanent transfer to Villa Park is out of the question, and something that would need to be revisited further down the line.

Nevertheless, although a tough one to work out before Monday, Emery is clearly in favour of his side pursuing Rashford. The Spaniard obviously feels he is the right man to get the struggling wide-man back to his best.
