Saudi club withdraw interest in Man Utd-linked Mathys Tel, they’re sure he’s going to one of two clubs

Manchester United’s need to comply with financial rules is limiting their opportunities in the January transfer market.

The United owners must balance their books to comply with the Premier League’s rules on Profit and Sustainability (PSR).

Patrick Dorgu is set to arrive for his United medical over the weekend after Lecce agreed to a £25 million (€30 million) deal but this means at least one high-profile name will probably need to leave.

Marcus Rashford would like to join Barcelona but there are no guarantees a deal can be struck. Alejandro Garnacho has caught the eye of Chelsea but again, an agreement isn’t easy to achieve.

Rashford and Garnacho’s futures will determine what Ruben Amorim can do between now and next week’s Deadline Day, and for one player, that could mean missing out on making a dream move to Old Trafford.

Al-Ahli withdraw Mathys Tel interest

Mathys Tel wants to leave Bayern Munich and could become one of the window’s biggest movers.

The Sarcelles-born forward has started just two Bundesliga matches this season and is now looking for a way out.

Unsurprisingly, given his desire to leave the Allianz Arena, Tel is wanted by several clubs, including Spurs and Aston Villa.

There has also been genuine interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

However, despite wanting to bring Tel to the Middle East Al-Ahli have recently withdrawn from the running because they strongly suspect the teenager will end up moving to the Premier League.

Spurs or Villa expected to win race

Despite his eagerness to move to Manchester, Tel, who would be a better option in attack than Rasmus Hojlund, could be left disappointed and forced to accept a transfer elsewhere.

Even though Tel is keen to play under Amorim in his demanding 3-5-2 system, the young Frenchman could be denied his dream move.

For reasons not yet known, Al-Ahli believe the in-demand 19-year-old will end up signing for either Spurs or Unai Emery’s Villains.

With time now running out and United’s plans hinging on what others do, it would be fair to assume Tel can’t risk waiting around any longer.

Unlikely to have a way back in at Bayern, Tel will need to decide his next move quickly, and with Spurs already reaching a £50 million (€60 million) agreement with Bayern, the young winger may end up in London next week.
