Manchester United transfer clauses now under the microscope after Ineos statement, offers in pipeline

Manchester United are searching for ways to make money and other clubs may now offer Ineos some interesting deals.

On the field, off the field, there is not much for Manchester United fans to shout about right now.

United drew 2-2 at Everton on Saturday, turning in a pretty dreadful performance for the best part of an hour.

Ruben Amorim is struggling to find consistency and high performance levels at United, summed up by United sitting 15th in the Premier League table.

The financial situation isn’t great either with United announcing more redundancies to come as Ineos attempt to cut spending at Old Trafford.

United need to balance the books somehow and Ineos may now be given some intriguing proposals from other clubs.

Manchester United sell-on clauses under the microscope

Player sales would really help United but with Amorim’s men struggling, major summer interest may be thin on the ground.

There may be another way for United to bring in immediate funds though – and it would involve giving up a potentially great windfall down the line.

The Telegraph report that ‘multiple clubs’ are now considering approaches to ‘buy’ sell-on clauses from United.

Clubs who have bought players from United in recent times agreed to sell-on clauses, guaranteeing a percentage of any sale cash for United in the future.

Yet with United needing cash, those clubs are now considering offering United cash now in order to remove the clauses and secure more money for themselves in the future.

That is an intriguing proposition and will leave Ineos contemplating whether to take the quick cash or hold out for a larger fee in the years to come.

The Ineos statement announcing the redundancies on Monday seems to have left clubs to study United’s situation and consider some offers for those clauses ahead of the summer.

Notable Manchester United sell-on clauses

Here are some clauses which could be placed into focus as United seek a financial boost.

United hold a 20% sell-on clause on Andreas Pereira with the Fulham midfielder no doubt attracting interest this summer.

Hannibal Mejbri’s sell-on clause stands at 50% after United sold the midfielder to Burnley over the summer.

United also hold a sell-on clause on Facundo Pellistri and will take 45% of any fee Panathinaikos bring in for the Uruguayan.

There is a ‘significant’ sell-on clause on Teden Mengi but the Luton Town defender has endured a difficult season.

United’s sell-on clause for Scott McTominay is just 10% but clubs around the world may well be looking at their clauses with United and consider offers to Ineos.
