Man Utd could replace Casemiro with Brazilian trio after making progress on Andrey Santos deal

Manchester United are working on a deal to sign Andrey Santos after learning Chelsea’s asking price for the midfielder.

The biggest task for Manchester United this summer is revamping the midfield department, which involves replacing Casemiro after the Brazilian veteran’s contract expired in June.

Since then, United have reached an agreement to sign Ederson from Atalanta. The 26-year-old is now expected to complete his medical examinations following Brazil’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup.

However, Ederson is not the only Brazilian midfielder who could be on his way to Old Trafford this summer.

Man Utd step up Andrey Santos pursuit

On Sunday, it was reported that United are actively targeting Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

Santos is open to leaving Stamford Bridge after struggling to get regular game time.

United were initially linked to Santos in March, but recent developments suggest the pursuit has been intensified significantly.

According to the Daily Mail, United are edging closer to a move for Santos with talks now underway.

The 22-year-old midfielder signed for Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in 2023 and made 43 appearances for the club last season, scoring three goals.

Santos remained at Vasco da Gama on loan following his move to London before leaving temporarily again for Nottingham Forest.

He enjoyed successful loan spells at Strasbourg before returning to Stamford Bridge at the start of last season.

Sources close to the situation claim Chelsea will demand £50m for Santos’ signature, after the young Brazilian made 27 Premier League appearances for the Blues.

The Reds need additions in midfield, not just because of Casemiro’s exit, but the demand increased when Manuel Ugarte suffered a long-term knee injury at the World Cup.

Although Ugarte was likely to be sold this summer, he is now ruled out for the rest of the year.

It turns out that Santos isn’t the only Brazilian subjected to transfer talks with United at the moment, and we’re not talking about Ederson.

Back in May, United were linked to Botafogo’s Danilo Santos before he went to the World Cup with Brazil.

O Dia published a report on how Botafogo’s gamble didn’t come off as their plan was dependent on Danilo impressing at the World Cup to justify their £34m asking price.

Danilo played just 44 minutes for Brazil throughout the tournament as they crashed out in the round of 16, after losing 2-1 against Norway.

The former Nottingham Forest midfielder has also been linked with a move to Palmeiras, where he has played previously, if a switch back to Europe doesn’t materialise.

If United were to sign Santos and Danilo, along with Ederson, that would make it a Brazilian trio to replace one of the best defensive midfielders Brazil has produced.
