Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha and departing midfielder Casemiro both featured for Brazil in their Round of 16 World Cup defeat to Norway.

Matheus Cunha and Casemiro were two of seven Manchester United players in the Round of 16 at this summer’s World Cup tournament.

Cunha has been on a hot streak for Brazil, but he was unable to add to his goal tally as his nation suffered a 2-1 defeat to Norway courtesy of an Erling Haaland brace.

The silver lining for United fans is that Cunha will be expected back at Carrington shortly with pre-season training set to begin on July 9.

Match stats for Matheus Cunha and Casemiro for Brazil

While Casemiro played the entire match for Brazil, Cunha’s time on the pitch was cut short just before the hour mark.

Matheus Cunha:

Cunha was starved of service as Brazil’s centre-forward, only managing 23 touches and seven completed passes.

Incredibly, both Cunha and Casemiro won penalties for Brazil. The first was missed by Bruno Guimaraes, the second scored by Neymar.

Ederson gets small cameo for Brazil

Hours before the Brazil match started, there was confusion over why Ederson’s deal hasn’t been made official by United.

Despite some reports that the deal has stalled or been off, reliable reports suggest the transfer is still set to be completed once the 26-year-old completes a medical back in Manchester.

Ederson was a late call-up to the Brazil squad as an injury replacement, and his only minutes had come in the group stage.

Carlo Ancelotti called on Ederson from the bench against Norway. He played 11 minutes and ended with a 100% pass accuracy.
