Premier League sides Manchester United and Newcastle have both been linked with a midfield talent who is attracting serious interest from one leading European club.
The Red Devils have seen limited movement in the summer transfer window since Manchester United signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for a £62.5m fee in June.
Matheus Cunha has been United’s marquee summer signing and Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim is expected to see more transfers arrive at Old Trafford this summer.
United have been linked with Bryan Mbeumo and the 25-year-old Brentford and Cameroon star is a key summer target alongside former Wolves ace Cunha.
Ruben Amorim has been overhauling the United first-team squad that he inherited from ex-Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag after his arrival from Sporting CP in 2024.
The Red Devils are believed to be interested in signing a new midfielder and a new striker for the 40-year-old United manager before the window shuts in September.

Man Utd and Newcastle now face transfer competition over Feyenoord and Netherlands midfielder Quinten Timber
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United and Newcastle are two Premier League clubs that have been linked with midfielder Quinten Timber in the past.
United showed transfer interest in Quinten Timber when Erik ten Hag, who was sacked as Red Devils manager last October, was in the Old Trafford dugout.
Timber could be a cheap midfield target for United to pursue this summer, but 2025 Champions League finalists Inter Milan are now interested in the Dutchman.
TEAMtalk reports that the 24-year-old midfielder ‘figures highly’ on Inter Milan’s shortlist for midfield options for new club manager Cristian Chivu this summer.
The publication added that Inter stepped up their pursuit of United-linked Timber and the Serie A outfit have ‘made enquiries’ with Feyenoord about the player.
Feyenoord’s transfer stance on Netherlands star Quinten Timber amid the interest from Man Utd, Newcastle and Inter Milan
TEAMtalk claimed that both United and Newcastle had ‘considered’ Quinten Timber and were ‘in the mix’ to sign the midfield talent, ‘albeit less so’ than before.
Timber has been at Feyenoord since 2022 after he was signed from Eredivisie outfit Utrecht and the Dutch midfielder has netted 17 times in 101 matches for the club.
The Netherlands international’s current deal will expire in 2026 and Feyenoord are expected to hold out for a fee of around £21.6m (€25m) for Timber this summer.
It is believed that United and Newcastle ‘have shown interest’ in Timber, but it has been added that no Premier League club are ‘advancing in talks’ for the Feyenoord star.
Inter have not ‘submitted an official offer’ for Netherlands midfielder Timber, but the player is reportedly still under ‘serious consideration’ from the Italian club.
