Manchester United’s search for a new left wing-back continues and one option is looking like the most sensible deal possible.
Ruben Amorim has been having a nightmare at Old Trafford, with one position in his squad most notably needing a boost.
Since Amorim’s arrival, Manchester United’s options at left wing-back have comprised a right-back in Diogo Dalot and then Tyrell Malacia returning off an 18-month lay-off.
Neither has filled the position and it has become a glaring issue within the team which Ineos simply have to fix this month.
With 12 days left in the transfer window, United have accelerated talks to sign Patrick Dorgu from Leece, but there may be a better option available for half the price.

Alvaro Fernandez shines against Barcelona
With Dorgu being priced at £34m by Leece, it is a figure which a financially troubled United could struggle to fund.
Therefore, re-signing Alvaro Fernandez from Benfica for just £16m seems like an increasingly smart move – the value of his buyback clause to United.
Signing Alvaro is a move Amorim would like, and United fans have often been impressed with the Spaniard’s performances in the Champions League.
The 21-year-old was once again impressive on Tuesday night as he assisted one of Benfica’s four goals in a 5-4 defeat to Barcelona.
Alvaro was sold for just £6m last summer, yet is now dominating in Europe’s premier competition. Therefore signing him would be pretty logical for the fee – along with the sell-on clause which makes a deal even cheaper.
This is a stance many United fans now have.

Manchester United fans demand £16m Alvaro buyback is triggered
After another impressive performance by Alvaro, United fans demanded that Ineos swiftly move to trigger his buy-back option.
One fan wrote on X: “Alvaro Fernandez assist against Barca we really sold this guy for £6m lmao.”
Another added: “You just know me keeping mute about this Alvaro Fernandez masterclass is very dangerous. The obsession continues but more tweets coming. Bring him back.”
A fourth fan joked that he had pocketed Lamine Yamal.
One fan went on a rant about his desire for the deal to be done: “I’ll never understand why we don’t do smart business surely if we’re strapped for cash signing Alvaro Fernandez makes the most sense. Literally one of the best young LBs in the world and would no doubt play well as a LWB as well given how good he is offensively.”
While another also ranted: “I’m sorry, but signing this Lecce LWB over activating Alvaro Fernandez’s buyback clause is insanity. Running the show against Barça from left back whilst simultaneously keeping the best right winger in the world quiet.”
Finally, one fan even argued Ineos could sign both and secure the position for years: “Patrick Dorgu = £25/30M Alvaro Fernandez = £16M buyback clause If INEOS were smart they could bring in 2 quality wing-backs this month for under £50M..”
