Lecce director breaks silence on Patrick Dorgu after Man Utd talks, he has a clear message

Manchester United had representatives in Italy on Tuesday with Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu the topic of discussion.

Ruben Amorim’s priority position to strengthen this month was always bound to be the left wing-back spot.

In the 3-4-2-1 system, wing-backs are crucial – so not having a natural option on that side has been detrimental to the development of Manchester United in Amorim’s system.

To solve this issue, United entered talks to sign Patrick Dorgu from Leece, a 20-year-old Dane who is shining in Serie A.

Ineos love the idea of signing Dorgu, and Lecce’s MVP is viewed as being United’s solution to the left wing-back woes.

Signing Dorgu would be akin to the Leny Yoro addition, another generational talent for his position.

Sticchi Damiani speaks out after Manchester United transfer talks

On Tuesday, talks for Dorgu really ramped up with United heading to Italy for direct talks. The club’s director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves was spotted after the meeting yet had no comment.

Now, Lecce’s director, Sticchi Damiani has spoken out with a clear message.

“We met with Man United and we told them that our plan is to keep our key players, including Patrick Dorgu”.

“We’re delighted to have Man United here to make a proposal but our target to stay in Serie A is crucial.”

These comments from the director are hardly surprising, with the director looking to maintain a strong negotiation standpoint.

With a price tag set, it seems Lecce are open to the discussions.

Leece’s stance on Patrick Dorgu is clear

With Leece having already set a £34m price tag for their talented Danish full-back – suddenly deciding he is not for sale would be bizarre.

Rather, this is likely his way of telling United to up the offer to match their valuation.

United have started with an offer of £25.3m – which Lecce will clearly want to see up.

So despite stating the plan to keep Dorgu – Lecce would do business for their asking price. This means the ball is simply in United’s court.
